Projects
The Engineering Department has a variety of projects going on at any given point. These range from street reconstruction and rehabilitation, sanitary sewer cleaning, and televising and lining, to stormwater management and water quality improvement.

In May 2023, Governor Tim Walz approved a capital investment funding allocation of $1.85 million to the City of Mendota Heights for improvements at Oheyawahe. A primary goal of this project is to provide safe visitor access and bring the site in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Improvements will enhance interpretation and understanding of the unique character of the site.
PROPOSED UPDATES INCLUDE:
- Entry Area/Bus Drop-off with ADA-accessible path, entrance sign, landscaping and interpretive signage.
- ADA-accessible gathering area, providing a multi-purpose plaza as the primary visitor contact site for visitors; adding parking, a drinking fountain, bicycle parking, restroom facilities, and a bio-infiltration water management feature.
- Evaluation of an existing structure for re-purposing as an outdoor educational gathering facility.
- Trail improvements, in cooperation with Dakota County, to connect to the existing MN River Regional Greenway Big Rivers Trail.
- Historical area interpretive and other signage
- Natural resource restoration and enhancement.
In 2022, the City worked together with residents and the Council to finalize a comprehensive plan for recommendations and improvements to bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

Infrastructure projects typically include reconstruction, rehabilitation, or preventative maintenance to the roadways, trail system, and utility networks including the storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and watermain. Improvements are guided by the City's Street Improvement Plan (SIP), Trail Improvement Plan (TIMP), Sanitary Sewer Improvement Plan (SSIMP), and the Storm Water Improvement Plan (SWIMP) which can all be found within the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) listed above.
These projects typically consist of improvements to lakes, wetlands, creeks and drainage areas throughout the city. Water Resource Projects can be found within the CIP under Storm Sewer.
