[ARCHIVED] Park Projects Update

Skate Park Reconstruction Project Rendering

The 2023 City budget includes funding for park projects at Mertensoto, Rogers Lake, Wentworth and Valley View parks.

CIVIC CENTER FIELD AT MERTENSOTO PARK

Last week the Civic Center-Mertensotto Field underwent infield maintenance work to remedy infield lips that have developed over the years. The project included a survey of the existing field for calculating volumes and building a finished design surface. Then the contractor stripped the infield, back arc and mound, and regraded the site. Due to the new sod installed, the field will remain closed for the remainder of the season. Please abide by the closed signage to ensure the field is ready to go in the spring.

ROGERS LAKE SKATE PARK

The skate park is now closed, existing features have been sold/removed and contractors are on site to begin construction on the new concrete pad. Please be mindful of the posted signage and caution tape while using Rogers Lake Park during the skatepark renovation. The new skate park will open in the spring of 2024, featuring all-new equipment including a quarter pipe, jump box, wedge, grind rail, pyramid, bank ramp, spine, half pipe and grind box.

WENTWORTH PARK

WARMING HOUSE

The City Council has approved the construction of a new warming house at Wentworth Park. The new warming house will have similar design specs to the existing warming house at Friendly Hills Park. The warming house construction will begin in the Fall and it will be completed and open for the 2023-2024 ice skating season.

TENNIS COURTS

The City Council has approved the reconstruction of the two tennis courts at Wentworth Park. The Contractor is to substantially complete the project by October 31, 2023.  The final completion of the project is June 1, 2024.  Substantial completion shall include concrete net posts, footings, asphalt paving, fencing, and restoration.  Final completion shall include acrylic surfacing application and striping.

VALLEY VIEW PARK PLAYGROUND

Completed early this summer, the new Valley View Heights playground is now open to the public.
