Waste
The City Council has the goals to "integrate sustainability practices into municipal operations and infrastructure investments" and "enhance public knowledge and use of natural resources and sustainability best practices." Staff fulfills these goals by reducing and recycling materials in city buildings and providing opportunities for residents to divert waste from the landfill.
Refurbished materials
The City uses refurbished cubicles and office furniture, rather than buying new.
reduced paper use
Staff decreased the size of paper used to promote programming. Staff uses QR codes to provide an electronic alternative to paper materials.
Composting and recycling
There are opportunities to compost and recycle waste at city buildings.
environmentally preferable purchasing
City staff follow guidelines that aim to align purchasing with the City's commitment to sustainability. These include guidelines on purchasing paper, appliances and cleaning products.
Annual events
Staff hosts events for residents to recycle confidential documents, mattresses, pumpkins, and holiday lights. Residents can also reuse materials at swap events. Visit the city calendar for more information.
recycling resources
Information on what and how to recycle in Mendota Heights as a resident or business can be found on the recycling page. If you have additional questions about proper disposal of materials, please contact the city’s Recycling Coordinator.
food scrap drop-off site
The City hosts a public food scrap drop-off site at Mendakota Park. Visit the organics page for more information.
recreation programming
Parks & Recreation staff hosts recreation programming geared teaching kids about waste reduction and recycling, like recycled craft sessions. Check out all recreation programing on the recreation page.
