[ARCHIVED] What Will You Name Your Drain?

adopt a drain

At a recent meeting, the Natural Resources Commission voted to adopt the storm drain near City Hall and name it Clean Water Heights, as a part of the Adopt-a-Drain Program. The Adopt-a-Drain program began in 2014, with the support of the Capital Region Watershed District and Hamline University. The program was developed in an effort to reduce the amount of debris and pollutants from entering surface waters via storm drains, by encouraging residents to adopt a drain in their neighborhood and keep it free of leaves, trash and other pollutants. The City is a program partner of Adopt-a-Drain through the Lower Mississippi River Watershed Management Organization.

You can also name a drain in your neighborhood. Residents around Minnesota have named their storm drains Purple Drain, Purple Drain, Rodney Draingerfield, and Drain THE ROCK Johnson. What will you name your storm drain? Signing up for the Adopt-a-Drain Program and cleaning up around your storm drain just twice a month makes a huge difference in cleaner and healthier water bodies.
