Request a license for the sale of alcohol, including intoxicating liquor, wine, and light beer. Alcohol licenses are valid for one year from July 1 to June 30. The renewal process for current license holders begins in February and renewal applications are due by April 30.


Liquor

OFF SALE license applies to the sale of packaged intoxicating liquor including distilled spirits, wine, and beer by liquor stores for consumption off the licensed premises.

ON SALE license applies to the sale of intoxicating liquor including distilled spirits, wine, and beer for consumption on the licensed premises with food service available (restaurants, bars, hotels).

  • Large for spaces of 2000+ square feet and 200+ guest seating
  • Small for spaces of 1000+ square feet and 50+ guest seating
  • Limited for culinary classes
  • Club - Large for clubs with 201-500 members; sale to members only
  • Club - Small for clubs with 200 or less members; sale to members only
  • Temporary license applies to the sale by a current license holder up to four days for consumption on a nonprofit event premises

SUNDAY SALE licence is for the sale of intoxicating liquor on Sundays by current on sale intoxicating liquor license holders with food service available (restaurants, bars, hotels).

Wine

ON SALE license applies to the sale of wine and strong beer up to 24% alcohol by volume (ABV) by a restaurant with guest seating for 20+ for consumption on-site.

Malt

OFF SALE license applies to the sale of packaged malt beer 3.2% alcohol by weight (ABW) by grocery and convenience stores for consumption off the licensed premises.

ON SALE license applies to the sale of malt beer 3.2% ABW for consumption on the licensed premises with food service available (clubs, restaurants, hotels). 

  • Temporary license applies to the sale by a current license holder up to four days for consumption on a nonprofit event premises

Minnesota is currently the only state to limit grocery and convenience stores to selling 3.2 beer.
