The Hiring Process

The hiring process for new firefighter recruits is comprehensive and takes several months to complete.  Applicants are screened and interviewed and references are checked.

Applicants then complete a Fitness for Duty assessment that is administered by a third party service provider, participate in the full interview process and complete a background investigation. Once conditional offers are extended, successful candidates undergo pre-employment examinations including medical and drug screenings. Recruits who pass pre-employment examinations then begin orientation and training after presentation to and acceptance by the City Council.
